Dealing with Traumatic Incidents workshop
Unfortunately, many railway employees may be exposed to traumatic events, such as suicides, fatalities, or rail accidents, while at work. In such challenging times, it is crucial for managers to provide the necessary support, care, and guidance to their employees.
The OPC has collaborated with a clinical psychologist to design the Dealing with Traumatic Incidents workshop. It aims to equip investigators and managers with the knowledge and skills to better support their employees. The clinical psychologist provided expertise regarding trauma symptoms, when trauma becomes Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), signs to look out for, and how to protect yourself in these circumstances.
When dealing with traumatic incidents, having a proactive approach can significantly contribute to the wellbeing and recovery of employees during difficult times. Through this workshop, managers and investigators are more likely to be effectively prepared to manage such incidents and support employees, limiting the potential negative impact on wellbeing for themselves and team members.
The one-day workshop covers topics such as:
- Understanding trauma and its symptoms.
- Managing traumatic events, both personally and for others.
- Preparation before attending such incidents.
- Coping strategies to mitigate the impact of trauma.
- How to identify and support colleagues affected by traumatic incidents.
This workshop is open to investigators, managers, supervisors, and team leaders who have operational responsibilities that may expose them to traumatic incidents. It is delivered by expert OPC psychologists. It can be presented either face-to-face or digitally.
Additionally, the outlined learnings of the workshop can have wider benefits. Not only can they help when managing a traumatic event, but the training can also support a positive workplace and personal wellbeing. Together we can help create a supportive and resilient work environment.
"A really useful workshop with interesting topics. Beneficial for all levels of our organisation."
"An appropriate amount of interactive content, and the discussions were very thought provoking."
