Safety culture
The culture in which we work can have a powerful impact on how we behave at work. Safety culture can be referred to as ‘how we do things around here in relation to safety’. We are social animals that like to fit in and so we are more likely to want to fit in with the existing safety culture within our organisation. So the prevailing safety culture in your organisation can affect if you think safely, value safety and behave safely. In essence your safety culture can affect your safe performance at work. This is supported by empirical research that has found links between how strong an organisation’s safety culture is and its safety record.
The OPC psychologists work with its UK and international clients to:
- Raise awareness and understanding of the importance of safety culture amongst key managers.
- Undertake a safety culture health check by measuring the organisation’s safety culture both organisation wide and within individual business functions.
- Improve the safety culture within the organisation by implementing a culture improvement programme.
- Measure safety improvements following the successful implementation of a culture improvement programme.
