Rail Professional Magazine (Feb2021) Article: Leading Lights in Light rail

Posted on 28th February 2021

Dr Steve Fletcher shared some best practice from light rail organisations that the OPC has worked alongside; exploring job profiling and validation work and their benefits to recruit the best, safest and most effective tram drivers.  Andy Wallace, Head of Safety at Tram Operations Ltd explains how really understanding the nature and challenges of the tram driver role and going back to the basics of job profiling meant choosing the right recruitment process and assessment tools. This provided the organisation with assurances that the processes and tools really could help predict the right kind of employees for their safety-critical roles.

The Light Rail article also explores the real benefits of validation work linked to recruitment processes. Work that is seldomly undertaken. It also tells about a rare piece of work with a tram-train organisation to help in its organisational re-structures, processes and job role redesign.
