Helping US client to recruit best & safest Locomotive Engineers using our online Bureau Service

Posted on 4th February 2020

NJ Transit in the United States have been using our Bureau Service and three online OPC Assessment tools to help recruit safe and effective Locomotive Engineers. These are:

  1. The Rules Acquisition Aptitude Test (RAAT) used to help identity those applicants who are more likely to pass and flourish at training.
  2. The Visual Search Exercise (VSE) which is based on years of OPC research with train drivers who have had safety incidents. The VSE can be an important aid in selecting those Locomotive Engineers who are less likely to have a safety of the line incident whilst driving.
  3. The Magnificent 7 Situational Judgement Test (M7SJT) which is all about helping to recruit the very best engineers who have the potential to be outstanding in the role.

NJ Transit has assessed hundreds of candidates using these three assessment tools. We have also developed some off-the-shelf norms that can be used by US rail clients to help recruit the safest and best Locomotive Engineers or Train Drivers.
